The Netherlands: a joint venture of clubs, businesses, municipalities and schools in sport

In this article, the authors first highlight some general characteristics of the way sport is organized in the Netherlands: its history, main players and the way sport is funded. Next, they provide a general overview of the Dutch sport economy: its contribution to the total economy, and the main parts that it consists of. In addition, they describe in greater detail the specific sub-branches of the Dutch sport economy, focusing especially on the private sector. They end this article with a short summary of the main findings.
