Legal strategies to improve physical activity in populations
We describe the development and application of a framework that aligns legal strategies with the WHO Global Plan policy objectives. This new framework – the Regulatory Approaches to Movement, Physical Activity, Recreation, Transport and Sport – can help policy-makers to use the untapped potential of legal interventions to support or strengthen a whole-system response for promoting physical activity. The framework illustrates the role of legal interventions to improve physical activity and identifies opportunities for research to advance understanding, implementation and evaluation of legal responses to this issue.
