The global matrix 3.0: physical activity report card grades for children and youth

results and analysis from 49 countries

The Global Matrix 3.0 of Report Card grades on physical activity was developed to achieve a better understanding of the global variation in child and youth physical activity and associated supports.

The Report Card included the 10 core physical activity indicators that are common to the Global Matrix 3.0 (Overall Physical Activity, Organized Sport Participation, Active Play, Active Transportation, Sedentary Behavior, Family and Peers, School, Community and Environment, Government, and Physical Fitness). Weight status was included as an additional indicator.

The present study provides rich new evidence showing that the situation regarding the physical activity of children and youth is a concern worldwide. Strategic public investments to implement effective interventions to increase physical activity opportunities are needed.

The countries with a report card are: Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium [Flanders], Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei [Taiwan], Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Ecuador, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Ghana, Germany, Guernsey, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Jersey, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, The Netherlands, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Scotland, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, Wales and Zimbabwe
