The disabled and health care in sport

the literature and an investigation concerning the importance of sport for the disabled

Auteur(s): Watze Ype Sijtsema

The purpose of this study is to highlight the neccessity for a disabled person to participate in some form of sporting exercise. The problem in this connection is primarily one of education and counselling of the disabled person; it is of particular importance that the doctor makes the patient aware of the neccessiy of movement and sporting activities. The Olympics for the Disabled 1980 staged at Arnhem in The Netherlands provided an opportunity to conduct a survey amongst a large number of international participants. It has proved possible to process the results in a separate chapter in a thesis. In this present work, one will find both this chapter and a summary of the thesis as a whole.
