The first chapter describes the context in which both the social economy and social entrepreneurship are situated. The second chapter is devoted to describe the core organisations that traditionally compose the Social Economy in Europe, presenting who they are and what are their defining characteristics. The third chapter then focuses on the new organisational forms that have emerged in response to the new social needs and challenges. The fourth chapter shows the social economy and social entrepreneurship in numbers. The fifth chapter explores the other trends that have emerged in recent years. The last two chapters are devoted to the outlook for the social economy and social entrepreneurship in Europe.
